Interurban Tram to Ghioroc
Author: dwatry

Recently while wandering around in Transylvania (I've always wanted to write that sentence!!), I stumbled upon a metre-gauge interurban tram line that is run as part of the Arad, Romania tram system.  The interurban line goes to Ghioroc, and has service about every hour and a half.  The Arad system runs mostly with secondhand German and Austrian cars.

1) Outbound car approaching Ghioroc terminal.  Car is an ex-Innsbruck Duwag tram (built by Duwag licensee Lohner).
2)  Car has pulled onto the turning wye and is waiting to back up.
3)  Car backing around wye.

4) Car departing Ghioroc around wye, heading back toward Arad.
5) Photo posted in old station building of tram activity at the wye in 1930.
6) Rural roadside right-of-way between Ghioroc and Arad.

7) Tram in open countryside between Ghioroc and Arad.
8)  Another ex-Innsbruck car in Arad.
9) Ex-Stuttgart (I think) car in Arad under threatening skies.  (Rained a lot in Romania.)

Thanks for sharing. Looks like next time I'm there I'll have to go to Arad.
