At Haugastol. Will be at Finse 5:03 am instead of scheduled 4:07 am. Earlier today a train to Oslo had engine problems nd was delayed at Finse.

When a train in Europe is that late, it's big news. Here on Amtrak, not so much.

What you describe as an engine problem appears to have been a catenary damage problem at Finse because there was a crew working into the night to fix it. I saw one Bergen-bound freight pass through on the second track. The workmen had to remove the safety ground and move their wire service car clear of the interlocking. Presumably the catenary was re-energized at that point (for a significant length of the line). The freight passed after 10 minutes or so, and the crew had to wait a similar length of time before putting the safety ground back and resuming work.

So I expect the delays you saw were related to this activity.

Amtrak 19/20 would be doing good to only be an hour late.
