Narrow gauge Waldviertelbahn Austria
Author: rfdatalink

After spending the night in Nova Bystrice Czech Republic, (see my previous post), it was a short drive south to Gmund Austria, home base for the Waldviertelbahn.     The Waldviertelbahn is a 760mm narrow gauge running north and south from Gmund.    We stopped in Heidenreichstein on our way south and took some photos of the heritage railway getting ready to run an excursion.
- Crew gets the little diesel ready for the day
- Getting ready to send a inspection car out on the line.
- We catch up with the inspection car crossing a road.

We had tickets to ride what I believe was the first steam excursion of the year from Gmund to Gross Gerungs.    The Waldviertelbahn has a nice new shop and station in Gross Gerungs
- Diesel rail car for daily operations.
- Steamer gets train to the platform.  (no cell phone rules here I guess.)
- Heading south.

- During our stop in Gross Gerungs I had to make a stop at the local fire station and talk a little shop.
- The trip back was in pouring rain, which limited photography.

Great pictures. That's an interesting water spout.
