European Railroad Discussion > Network Southeast in 1991Date: 05/04/20 07:38 Network Southeast in 1991 Author: 86235 All in former Southern territory
1: Pirbright on the Surrey / Hampshire border, about 40 miles southwest of London, a pair of 4VEPs on a Saturday Only Bournemouth to London Waterloo fast service (head code 91). On summer Saturdays the hourly fast trains from Waterloo to the resort town of Bournemouth were supplemented by extras. Sadly there was no decent spare stock so anyone unlucky riding one of these extras had to put up with a VEP for 100 minutes. 2: At Grateley on Network Southeast's West of England Mainline east of Salisbury the 13:15 Waterloo to Exeter St Davids behind 50046 Ajax. 3: Even further west, the first train on a Sunday morning from Yeovil Junction to Basingstoke was a class 205 Thumper, another of the Southern's DEMU classes. They weren't as slab sided as the 6 car Hastings units. Date: 05/04/20 19:23 Re: Network Southeast in 1991 Author: krm152 Each and every one is absolutely first-rate. My favorite almost has to be the Class 50.
Thanks for posting your excellent photos from yesteryear, 1991. ALLEN |
