Welsh Marches Express
Author: 86235

The heritage railway and railtour business is starting to recover after the Covid Lockdown although some heritage railways - the Vale of Rheidol and West Somerset for instance - are calling it quits on 2020. Others are running attenuated services to ensure they can support social distancing and almost all require intending passengers to book in advance. Saphos Tours, the tour arm of Locomotive Services Limited has restarted their mainline steam tours, today it was the turn of the Welsh Marches Express from Exeter in Devon in SW England to Shrewsbury in Shropshire which was steam hauled from Bristol to Shrewsbury and back behind Standard Pacific 70000 Britannia. Here are two pictures, on the outward journey this morning at Tram Inn, between Abergavenny and Hereford and, in rather indifferent conditions on the return, climbing Llanvihangel bank. On the rear in both directions was heritage class 47, 47805 disguised as D1835, in two tone green.

Lovely shots, Nick. I must say, that class 47 in green does look the business. Back in the 1980s, I was a lot of time, effort and petrol chasing the Welsh Marches, with not a lot to show for it!! chris uk.
