Final 91s to Scotland
Author: 55002

I had a trip to Edinburgh Waverley during the week, which apparently coincided with the last week of class 91, electric hauled passenger trains to Scotland. From Friday September 5th, all LNER trains will be Azumas. I saw 91109 'Sir Bobby Robson' arriving from Kings Cross, and then parked alongside an Azuma working. The class 91s were introduced around 1988, and some will continue on London to Leeds and York services. chris uk.

Can't quite believe they've been around for 30+ years. Never better than when in BR Inter-city livery in my view.

Funny, I still think of these as the "new" locomotives!

Agreed -- old BR blue/gray was a close second, but this scheme is timeless, looking fresh still today.

I must agree the InterCity swallow livery was superb. Living in Wakefield, I was lucky when the 91 were on their test runs as many terminated and ran round in Wrenthorpe sidings. Open acces, no forest and no palisade back then.   chris uk.

I remember going for a few beers with my mate in Donny about 10 years ago celebrating his 300,000 mile travelled behind 91109. His favourite one.

Wow.  I'm not sure anyone will be rushing to do that mileage on an Azuma. Be prepared for severe back ache!   chris uk
