This is Abergavenny station on the Newport (South Wales) to Shrewsbury Welsh Marches Line. Originally opened in the 1840s by the Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford Railway, which later became part of the the Great Western, it was one of three stations serving this medium sized market town. Today it's the sole station with a roughly hourly service in each direction connecting Manchester in North West England with South and West Wales. Pre-Covid there were also trains every two hours between South and North Wales and plans for a Cardiff to Liverpool service. The station maintains a ticket office, restrooms and a buffet.

There is a cant through the station, speed limit is 80 mph.

Yep, as are the announcements, first in Welsh then in English.

Yeah, the Welsh are real sensative about that. Some consider english to be an "invader" language.

A slight exaggeration, there's almost no one in Wales who doesn't speak English. More and more people, including me, are learning the language, the Welsh Government's objective is 1 million speakers by 2025.
