European Railroad Discussion > A. E. Brown Visits the LNER

Sorry folks, I'm a day late posting these but lost track of time. Mr. Brown didn't photograph much of the LNER and what there is is mostly static roster shots taken at Kings Cross.  Nonetheless, here's a sample.

1.  60028 Walter K. Whigham - Kings X 4-3-56  (an A4 photo is obligitory)
2.  60504 Mons Meg - Kings X 4-3-56 (Forgive a comment from a foreigner, but is there anything uglier than a Thompson A2/2 -- especially given what this started life as?)
3.  61562 - near Oxford 5-15-55

Nice photos. That A4 is one elegant locomotive. They look large in a photo on their own, until compared to North American engines. We have a chance in Montreal to see an A4 at the CRHA museum in Delson sitting beside other equipment and the difference in size is amazing!
Looking forward to more photos of British steam.

 Not only were they ugly, Thompson had a thing about keeping the connecting rods of the inside and outside cylinders the same length, but they weren't very good. The relative positions of the cylinders on the outside in relation to the inside cylinder caused frames to flex and fracture.
