Sorry I'm late in this week's post but I have been away and just got home.  So here are three later designs, none of which are any of my favorites, but we give equal time to all CME's.

1.  BR 90010 - Banbury 9-25-55  --  Only a mother could love . . . . . .
2.  BR 84004 - Sealand, Flints. 4-8-55
3.  BR 75027 - Wolvercot Jct. 5-56

To make up for being late, there follows a "Second Section" in US operating parlance -- these are A. E. Brown in what was his more natural habitat.  We won't bother the folks in the Steam and Nostalgia boards as most of them think that nothing in Europe is worth bothering to look at!  :-(

Enjoy indeed!  As a former Dallasite, I really dig the second section.

MP 1540 can not be in Dallas.  It is a coal burner and there was no coal facilitiy on the T&P or for that matter, the MP branch line to Ft Worth.

I should have looked more carefully as I know a lot of the "documentation" is questionable, especially when only a month and year are given.  I need to check a little further but am wondering if this isn't a northbound coming off the north end of the Arkansas River Bridge at North Little Rock.  Note the lift bridge in the background and the dome of what would be the State Capitol.  This would be about as far north as Brown got in those years.

I didn't even notice the dome until looking more carefully.  Yes that is Little Rock.

1. I note those tenders on the two MP freights seem to have some sort of "line" strung on their sides, going from the cab to the rear;  I wonder what those are for ?

2. Also, does anyone else wonder if the vehicle behind those two tenders is a 'water bottle' ? [ I'm taking the dates of the photos into consideration.]

Could there be a connection [ pun intended ] between 1 and 2 ??

I think 162's is definitely a water car as it has a MoPac buzzsaw on its side and railroads rarely owned working tank cars.  I'm not so sure about 1540's but it is likely.

Most likely the electrical connection for the "back up" light on the tender.

Mr Brown had a talent for photographing locomotives that would escape scrapping and survive to the present day - how did he know? One of this week's trio, 75027, which was nearly new when seen Mr Brown in 1956, stayed in service with BR to 1968 and then worked in preservation up to 2007 with no intervening scrapyard episode.  It currently awaits an overhaul at Sheffield Park.

It is rather amazing, but regrettably that talent did not extend to the subjects of his US photos.

My school in Haywards Heath, South of London, was on a hill to the west of town with an unobstructed view of the London to Brighton mainline. I remember watching, incredulously, 75027 being towed into town by a class 73 and parked in the old goods yard, from where it was loaded onto a low loader and taken by road to the Bluebell Railway's Sheffield Park base.

Gordon, I agree Little Rock with the MP 2-8-2.  Brown took a lot of MP pictures and quite a few of the T&P.  Didn't he live in Shreveport or close to it?

Brown lived in Shreveport.   The 2-8-0 is at Dequincy, not Quincy, La
