A Collection of Castles from Mr. Brown
Author: gbmott

The greatest number of A. E. Brown negatives were of the Great Western, particularly around Newbury.  This week's installment is of Castles.  As always, corrections are very welcome.  I am particularly leery of photos that are identified only by date and month, as are two of these.  Those with a specific day seem more reliable.

1.  BR 5007 Rougemont Castle - Newbury Race Course 5-5-56
2.  BR 5047 Earl of Dartmouth - Newbury 5-56
3.  BR 5072 Hurricane - Newbury 3-56

For me that offset steam pipe to the cylinders spoils the otherwise beautiful lines of the Castle. I realise this was to provide clearance for the inside cylinders but I just can't get used to that rather unique look. But they were reliable performers.

I'll bet you could get your fingers pinched if you were caught by the main rod the crosshead guide mount angle.      --Jim Baker
