Cab interior contrast old diesel new electric
Author: petmew

Picture 1 here shows the cab of a former Belgian railways Reeks 6200 cab. As uses some EMD-parts, the cab will look not too unfamiliar to US-engineers.
The desk is on the left hand side (in Belgium they run on the left on double track). The brake valve is of the same basis as the one of the NS 1200 in my other recent topic, but as it is placed on the other sidewall, you have to move it forward to brake, where we in the Netherlands normally move the brake-lever in the direction of our body to brake. Some tie-and-pointy-shoe-guys said, that contradiction is a safety hazard, but I never missed my dinner mis-using either one...

Picture 2 shows the interior of the Siemens Vectron cab. The basics get more and more standardized, however Siemens Vectron and Bombardier TRAXX have the pantograph and transformer switcher on different sides of the desk. And I still have to look before I swing a hand right direction. Strange...

Picture 3 shows a ex-Belgium railway 6200 in the colours of ACTS Nederland, as in use with RailExperts. These engines were also used as booster-locomotives for the electric 1200 series at ACTS.

Picture 4 shows the same locomotive, also ex-ACTS, but now in the RFO-colors. On the left one of our shunting locomotives, only radio-remote-control nice low and wide steps for easy-on-the-body-working.

And picture 5 shows a Siemens Vectron (German type (Baureihe/BR) 193) from leasing company ELL, in use with the dutch railways for the new night trains to Germany. We sometimes have to move these from Amsterdam to our shops in Rotterdam.
