It's now classified as a Class Re 420 in the European numbering system, originally Class Re 4/4ll using the Swiss system. The production series of these began in 1967, after six protoypes built in 1964. This class was the standard SBB electric locomotive for decades. Nearly 400 were built up to 1985 and many are still active. I rode behind 11159 on the Gotthard Panorama Express in 2019.
