European Railroad Discussion > Glorious late September afternoonDate: 09/24/21 00:50 Glorious late September afternoon Author: 86235 Yesterday afternoon was really lovely down in the Usk Valley in SE Wales, temperatures peaking at 22C. I have a class on Thursday until 3 p.m. but was out shortly after for the loaded timber, which this week has been running to an amended daylight schedule, and the evening Gerald, the 1W96 Cardiff to Holyhead. 56302 'Peco The Railway Modeller 2016 70 Years' with driver Wayne Evans at the controls and Transport for Wales liveried 67008 were the two locomotives. Really good to see loco hauled passenger trains back again.

And it's nice to see the 67 and Mark 4 sets out and about regularly now. I'm sure they are a welcome feature in North Wales with their greater capacity and amenities over the 150/153/175 railcars more usually produced. They have a lumbering quality about them, but were conceived and built in something of a hurry following the 1974 oil crisis and the resulting reliance on coal for power generation. They are good locos, in as much as once the quality issues were sorted out they've given fairly good service. I have to agree that they do seem to have been a design "spare parts job". There's definitely a Class 47-ish look about the cab fronts, but the grilles rather spoil that classic design. Posted from Android |
