Coal from Cwmbargoed
Author: 86235

The daily 6C83 descending the 2.5% grade from the Ffos y Fran coal washery at Cwmbargoed past the site of the Ffynnonau Duon no.3 (Black Wells) drift mine. There's a 5 mph TSR (Temporary Speed Restriction) just above this location hence the almost constant application of the brakes. A good piece of train control by the driver.

Very nice.  Where was that coal destined?  Separate question-- what will be the effect of the proposal to extend the life of the remaining coal-fired power stations?

Coal from Cwmbargoed goes to two customers, Tata Steel at Port Talbot and Hope Cement in the English Midlands. If the lives of West Burton and Ratcliffe generating stations are extended they will only burn imported coal.
