Outside Kolin

Kolin is a medium sized town and an important railway junction in the Czech Republic about 40 miles east of Prague. Dwatry and I passed through last Thursday on our way to Brno. A couple of miles to the east, between Kolin and Stary Kolin, there's a grade crossing on the Ostrava mainline. We stopped just on the off chance, it was difficult to drag ourselves away.

13:06 An eastbound passenger behind one of CD's distinctive class 151, nicknamed Gorillas. The train carries both CD (Czech) and ZSSK (Slovak) cars, presumably heading to Puchov or Zilina.
13:10 Local services east of Kolin are in the hands of loco hauled sets and these RegioPanter EMUs from Skoda
13:14 Behind the local came a CD Cargo class 130 light engine, another product of the Skoda works.

We really should have got going but every time we headed to the car the gate sounder started and we stayed.

13:18: A westbound local, this time a class 162 on a push pull set
13:18 In the opposite direction a LEO Express Stadler articulated EMU. LEO Express is an open access operator providing inter-city services across the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.

But now time was passing and we still had another stop in mind en-route to Brno so even though the gates were closing once more we bid farewell and left.

There were at least two trains I didn't photograph, another CD RegioPanter and a Regiojet long distance service.

It relates to those Innotrans containers.

Don't think I've ever seen a painting of a train on the side of a train.

To see a lot more vids of Czech Republic trains, check out Pete Brandy every week on YouTube.  Great coverage and beautiful views.

Great coverage, enjoyed this series. My grandfather lived in Czechoslovakia for a few years, but since that was probably 85+ years ago, the trains have changed quite a bit. Hope to make it there someday myself, so thank you for the pictures.

Nice photos!

Do you ever see what looks like an orange Milwaukee Road unit wearing goggles?

I saw them twice south or Brno when I went through there in 2019.  Very interesting locomotives, with a nostalgic (for me) livery.  Both times they went by too fast to get a photo.

I think I found photos using a Google Image Search in 2020, but haven't been able to find them again.

Might be Class T 478.4 in orange livery...

Do you mean like these?

The 'Goggles' classes are very common across both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, they've also found themselves on the secondhand market in Italy. Built by CKD in large numbers they've either been re-engined with a Caterpillar prime mover or they have kept their original CKD engine.

The two in the first picture are in the livery of AWT (All World Transport) which is now owned by PKP Cargo.

In Slovakia most loco hauled services away from the electrified network are in the hands of re-engined class 757s like this (taken March 2015)
