German DB Cargo Baureihe 189 C-AKv-Kupplung / Faiveley Transpact
Author: petmew

I was doing my yoga exercises yesterday and wanted to share the equipment I use for that.
The C-AKv-Kupplung / Faiveley Transpact is normally used to couple onto iron ore cars. Those trains are too heavy for our normal couplings.
In order to couple with normal chain-and-hook stock, the C-AKv has an chain that can connect to a normal hook.
The yellow lever to the right is used to adjust the length of the chain. Wiggle room for a person is scarce...

Here are two front pictures:

Fascinating. Thank you.

Great views of an unusual arrangement. The "knuckle" style coupler with provision for "link and pin" style draft reminds me of those used in the US as the transition was made in the late 1800s. Thanks for posting.

That "knuckle" coupler is more then a regular Janny type coupler. It appears to have built in air connections too.

Very cool! How much heavier are the ore trains as a result?

IIRC they are 6000 metric tonnes. The trains are not any longer than other trains. However the hopper cars all have three axle trucks.
