European Railroad Discussion > European rail pass?

A number of years ago there was a pass option for the European rail system where you could do nearly unlimited travel within a 30 day period. I have a trip upcoming to the Netherlands and am curious if something similar still exists, otherwise train travel for the family of 5 might get expensive!

Note that Interrail passes are only for European residents. North Americans should opt for a Eurailpass (which is not available to Europeans). https://www.eurail.com/en/eurail-passes

I've used Trainline (https://www.thetrainline.com/) for rail travel in Europe and the UK. The fares are likely the same as buying directly from the rail companies and possible raileurope but I find their website and user interface to be amazing and much of it downloable to your phone. You might check their Eurail pass offerings.

The Train Line charges a booking fee for each ticket so no, it's not the same or cheaper than rail companies direct. For a family booking several tickets the fees start to rack up. For UK travel https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ should be the starting point. It doesn't sell tickets directly but links you to the appropriate train operating company to do the purchase, without booking fees.

If OP wants a rail pass in Europe (or the UK for that matter), usually you have to purchase it while NOT in Europe.
