European Railroad Discussion > Out on the Great Western MainlineDate: 11/03/22 15:14 Out on the Great Western Mainline Author: 86235 Yesterday (Wednesday Nov 2nd) between Didcot and Swindon
1: A pair of 387 EMUs on 9L13 09:51 Cardiff Central to London Paddington. Each day Great Western run 387s on one Paddington to Cardiff and vv service to maintain crew traction knowledge. As 110 mph EMUs they're marginally slower than the 125 mph class 800 IETs. But I prefer them to the 800s despite their outer suburban characteristics. 2: And here is an 800, or rather a pair of the 800/0 five car sets, unusually without a nose cone. 3: Heading west on the down relief 66065 on 6C03 Binliner, carrying domestic waste from the refuse transfer station at Northolt in NW London to the Energy Recovery Facility (aka incinerator) at Avonmouth Date: 11/03/22 15:23 Re: Out on the Great Western Mainline Author: 86235 4: A few miles west at Uffington 66414, wearing the now redundant Powerhaul livery, on 6C58 Oxford Banbury Road to Machen Quarry. Until a couple of weeks ago this flow was being handled by DCR, who I think were standing in for Freightliner Heavy Haul (FLHH).
5: Shrivenham; Celebrity GBRf 66793 in ersatz BR livery circa 1987 on 6V32 Tilbury to Trostre empty vans. 6: Short video clip taken at Denchworth and Shrivenham Edited 1 time(s). Mike Derrick Date: 11/04/22 05:40 Re: Out on the Great Western Mainline Author: dwatry Nice photos! Agree the 800s without the nose cone look very odd. Kind of like they left the house without getting fully dressed....

The "nose cone" is still there, it's just in the open position. It opens like a clam shell. They take 10-15 minutes to pass by here in Tyler, Tex. Date: 11/07/22 06:49 Re: Out on the Great Western Mainline Author: 86235 WrongWayMurphy Wrote:

I'm afraid our attention span isn't that great, that's why ours have to be shorter :-) Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/07/22 07:33 by 86235.
