It looks like they use rails with integral flangeways (as would be embedded in pavement) for guard rails OUTSIDE the running rails. I recall seeing this in a video of street running in an Eastern European city.

When Slovakia was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, Pressburg, now Bratislava, was a very wealthy trading city on the Danube. The architecture reflects that wealth

Pressburg was the German name, but as the city was actually in the Kingdom of Hungary it's name until 1918 was Pozsony. The name Bratislava (which has no historical precedent) was chosen by the new state of Czechoslovakia because it sounded neither German nor Hungarian!

Boejoe -- rubber strips are a rubber "boot" to insulate the rails from the ground?  Odd that they are intermittent, though.
