Second is the Jacobite Steam Train from Fort William to to Mallaig via Glenfinnan viaduct -is it always steam? -experience riding? Thanks Date: 01/25/23 07:54 Re: Scotland Steam Questions Author: 86235 Edinburgh to Aberdeen is approx 130 miles, normal Scotrail / LNER trains take about 150 minutes with a number of stops, I imagine a steam hauled railtour will take longer, as there'll probably be at least one water stop.
By the look of it the cars are classic non-airconditioned BR Mk1s, first class will be 2+1 seating, standard class 2+2. If there are compartments, a first class compartment will seat six, a standard class eight. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Railways_Mark_1 I rode behind Tornado on an evening railtour from London about 10 years ago, great fun. The route from Edinburgh to Aberdeen is very scenic, you have the two iconic bridges over the Forth and the Tay, the sea is always close by, you want to sit on the right hand side for the best views. Still plenty of semaphore signals too. Aberdeen's not the greatest destination in the world, it's called the Granite City because that's what it's built of, grey granite but the journey more than compensates. Edited 2 time(s).
