Is that the grade of coal, better steaming qualities of British steam?

We lived next door to a gentleman who was a Fireman on steam locomotives, I think on the Union Pacific but it's been over forty years ago. Anyways he said about the same thing. If you were firing right there should be little or no black smoke. Nice video! The Heritage railways in Britain are amazing. Part of them look like mainlines without any imagination.
