K&WVR - 45212 and the KWVR 50 Ton Breakdown crane
Author: Rattie

Black Five 45212 passes through Mytholmes Tunnel on a dull and wet challenging filming day, pulling the railway's 50-ton breakdown steam crane.  45212 entered service in November 1935 with the London, Midland and Scottish Railway.  In 1948 she was based at Fleetwood and remained in the North-West of England for the remainder of her career with stints at Liverpool Speke, Carnforth, Carlisle and finally at Lostock Hall in Preston, from which she retired in August 1968 after a pretty respectable 32 years and nine months in service.  One of over 800 Black Fives built, on 4th August 1968, she pulled the last BR revenue-earning steam-powered service passenger train.
