Good, too, to see historic locos preserved. Do you--or anyone else--know what liveries are currently standard in Russia? That red, orange, and black on many of the diesels looks very much like our beloved Milwaukee Road livery of the early 1950s! Thanks. Kurt.

While there is not standard "livery" per se, there are some standard colors that are assigned to each type of rolling stock. The standards below were for the whole SZD system before 1992, and are now, while not universal, a \'rule-of-thumb\' of sorts for the RZD. This is not a full list, just items which are at the top of my memory. freight diesels - shades of green passenger diesels - a red-orange-yellow combo, with many dual-purpose locos in green freight electrics - shades of green passenger electrics - red-orange-yellow combo with the more recently delivered Czech types in green (Chs7, ChS8, and the rebuilt ChS4\'s) passenger cars - shades of green and blue. Although some named trains are now in their own colors - such as the Moscow-Vladivostok "Rossiya" (red-white-blue) freight cars (boxars, gondolas, etc.) shades of brown Also, the locos in the former republics now sprout different paint shemes, but you can still find many locos in Soviet colors - up to and including the big red star on the nose! Imagine a loco in Ukraine, painted in the blue-yellow colors of the national flag with the big red star on the nose.....looks interesting |
