European Railroad Discussion > Sunday at South KentonDate: 12/02/24 00:01 Sunday at South Kenton Author: 86235 South Kenton in NW London is one of the best places to watch trains in and around London.
Plenty of trains; Avanti West Coast, West Midlands Trains, Southern, London Overground and London Underground on the passenger side, and DRS and DBC freight workings. The trains themselves include Avanti's 125mph tilting class 390 Pendolinos and 221 Super Voyagers and their new non-tilting class 805 Everos. The latter are most definitely a backward step, being restricted to 110 mph because of their lack of tilt. And not helped by being another version of the underwhelming Hitachi IET. West Midlands (operating as London North Western) use 100 and 110 mph Siemens Desiro EMUs on their outer suburban and longer distance semi-fast trains, nice units with large picture windows and comfy seats. On the DC lines the newest Overground units, Bombardier's stylish class 710s, share duties with Britain's oldest trains in regular service, the Bakerloo Line 1972 stock. The two freight trains I saw were the 4L48 Tesco Express from Daventry to Tilbury2 and the 6O45, the daily mineral water vans from Evian in France to Daventry. Not a bad afternoon weather wise after a pretty damp morning, a typical winter afternoon in London. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! I had gone there to catch this steam excursion. Spent the rest of the morning on the footbridge where you shot your videos, after the sun came out! Quite a day. Unfortunately, I didn't see any freight trains while I was there.

Date: 12/03/24 06:09 Re: Sunday at South Kenton Author: dwatry Yes the footbridge is in Northwick Park, about a 10 minute walk from the South Kenton station. South Kenton is on the Bakerloo Tube line, and the Overground line from Euston Station (now branded as the Lioness Line).

I rode the Bakerloo to South Kenton and the Metropolitan back from Northwick Park. |
