European Railroad Discussion > Torino TramsDate: 12/03/24 18:49 Torino Trams Author: dwatry Another sidetrip during our stay in Milan earlier this year, other than Slovenia (posted a few days ago), was a couple of days spent in Torino (Turin). I ended up really enjoying Torino, partially for the food, partially for the architecture, and most importantly - for the trams! Torino is listed as having 10 tram lines, though when we were there, several were using bus substitutes due to extensive trackwork and road reconstruction projects. Nonetheless, we were able to ride trams for almost all of our transportation needs. Here's a small sample of the trams in Torino, which are operated by GTT.
1) The oldest trams running in Torino are the 2800s, which were built by FIAT/Stanga in 1958-1960. Most are in this orange scheme - shown here on Line 15 in front of the main FS railway station in town - Porta Nuova. 2) This is the only 2800 I saw in the older green & creme scheme - also by Porta Nuova FS station. 3) A 2800 running on Line 16 on Corso Regina Margherita, near the big public marketplace at Porta Palazzo. 5) Side view of same. 6) Porta Palazzo has quite a complex web of trackwork and overhead, as several tram lines cross here. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/03/24 19:08 by dwatry. 8) Another 5000 - same location. 9) A 5000 negotiating the complex of trackwork at Porta Palazzo. As with many tram shots in Italy - bikes appear in the photo! That's part of the public marketplace in the background. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 12/03/24 19:09 by dwatry. Here's one coming through the arches on Via San Francesco D'Assisi just south of Piazza Palazzo di Citta.
11) Another Line 4 tram at Piazza Palazzo di Citta, with another bike accompaniment. 12) 6000-series tram at Porta Palazzo on Line 4. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/03/24 19:06 by dwatry.
