I rode the Rome subway (metro) from Roma Termini (main train station) to and from Vatican City and to and from the Colosseum. At rush hour, heading towards Vatican City, the train was absolutely packed. A one-way fare is only €1.50 and good for travel during a 100-minute period.

1. Viewed from across the platform is this apparently very new and very clean subway car at the Ottaviano station near Vatican City.

2. My train arriving at the Ottaviano station. Overhead electric, not third rail.
