European Railroad Discussion > An hour and a half around Linz, AustriaDate: 07/03/25 13:00 An hour and a half around Linz, Austria Author: NMlurker My return to Linz from Lambach at the end of my loop trip was uneventful but the following day I had an hour and a half free between checking out of my hotel and boarding an absolutely packed RailJet to Vienna. Flooding on the eastern part of the Westbahn had greatly reduced service on the busy corridor, in fact, service from the west into Vienna had only resumed the day before. Why they did not run a double-length trainset I do not know, as a few days later, still under the reduced service, I did see double trainsets.
1. The reflections in this shot make it a bit confusing but I like it for the signal. The stylized man on the sign is kind of famous. This is an S-Bahn (suburban train) cityjet departing from the Linz station. 2. An arriving S-Bahn cityjet at Linz. The "OÖ" stands for Obero-Österreich or Upper Austria for service based around Linz. 3. Evidently the Westbahn service had also resumed although may not have been running all the way to Vienna. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 07/03/25 13:16 Re: An hour and a half around Linz, Austria Author: NMlurker 4. A broadside view of an OBB S-Bahn OÖ Bombardier Talent cityjet EMU with the station in the background.
5. Parked across from the station was this CargoServ 182-class, Siemens ES (EuroSprinter) 64 (6400 kW), with German registration DISPO for Mitsui Rail Capital Europe, DISPO was the registration for a former Siemens leasing subsidiary. It is on a hopper train for voestaline of maybe powdered limestone? I think that is used in steel production. 6. A standard OBB 1116-class ES 64 EuroSprinter arrives at Linz with a railjet. Consider it an early Signal Sunday. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 07/03/25 13:30 Re: An hour and a half around Linz, Austria Author: NMlurker 7. A leased Beacon Siemens Vectron X4 E-877 leads a train of containers through the Linz station.
8. An OBB 1116-class Taurus (EuroSprinter family) in military garb leads a ballast train through the Linz station. The lettering reads "We Protect Austria" and "Our Army." 9. The Linzer Lokalbahn <LILO> is another private line operated by Stern & Hafferl that provides service west from Linz to Neumarkt-Kallham. It looks like it might be a scenic ride. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 07/03/25 13:39 Re: An hour and a half around Linz, Austria Author: NMlurker 10. And finally, a sunlit roster shot of an OBB 2070-class shunter that is a Vossloh product but also displays a Siemens plate on the cab. Evidently there is some form of partnership between Vossloh and Siemens for the production of these locomotives. I also note that this class of locomotives bears the name 'Hector.'

so all the locomotives with registrations of DISPO and MRCE belong to them now. The Class 2070 locomotives were built by Siemens-MaK a predecessor of Vossloh hence the Siemens builder plate. These locomotives are called "Hector". |
