European Railroad Discussion > An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train StationDate: 07/08/25 09:36 An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker Friday afternoon, September 27, 2024, was free of tour activities so obviously I headed for the trains. I was originally going to travel out to a Prague suburb where I could catch some freight action but 1) there are no automated ticket machines in the Prague train station and the line for the ticket counters was long, and 2) the weather forecast called for a chance of rain so hanging around the station it was. There is full access to all the platforms and I was not alone, there were some young local fans and a man from Germany. The station is very busy and there is a lot of variety.
1. First up is my least favorite locomotive scheme. This 6193-class Vectron MS is leased to Ceske Drahy (CD) by the Slovakian company Rolling Stock Leasing s.r.o. (RAILL). Praha hlavni nadrazi translates to Prague main station. The large train shed has a very European look. 2. Second up is another 6193-class 'white ghost' Siemens Vectron. This one has a name, Eliška. 3. RegioJet is a private, discount passenger train operator based in the Czech Republic. The 162-class electrics were built by Škoda from 1984-1992 and have the nickname Peršing (Pershing). The massive building in the back is half of the train station itself. Date: 07/08/25 09:53 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker 4. A CD centercab electric shunter, 111-class. Another signal where the red aspect is in the center.
5. A 362-class CD electric built by Škoda in 1990. This one has sublettering that says 'National transport." 6. This is the newest scheme on the 471-class (971-class are the control cabs) bi-level EMUs that more typically wear a CityElefant scheme. pid stands for Pražská integrovaná doprava, Prague integrated transport. Date: 07/08/25 10:01 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker 7. Speaking of which, here is a 471-class/971-class EMU in the more common CityElefant scheme.
8. Under the shed was this CD 362-class electric in a scheme advertising the on-line ticket website. We will see the completely different other side of this locomotive later. 9. A CD 371-class electric built by Škoda from 1996-2000 with the name Lucka (Luka). The Internet says the nickname for this class is Bastard (!). My apologies. Date: 07/08/25 10:15 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker 10. Another RegioJet 162-class with a visiting OBB 1216-class Taurus.
11. And now for something completely different. Suburban service is provided by 814-class DMUs in a unique paint scheme. Interestingly, it says 'Remote Control' on the front. Built by Pars Nova of Šumperk. 12. I take it that this CD 362-class locomotive is supporting the Czech national ice hockey team declaring "cheer and fight like a lion." In this shot you can see that the wheels are spoked as they are on most of the older Škoda-built electrics. Date: 07/08/25 10:24 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker 13. Finally the powered end of a 471-class bi-level EMU in a third scheme, a more traditional two-tone blue CD scheme.
14. Who knew that the sides of a 362-class locomotive were so different? The 'eshop' loco is pulled out by another CD 362-class unit on what looks like a lunar signal. 15. RegioJet also has newer locomotives such as this Bombardier Alstom TRAXX MS3 388-class. Date: 07/08/25 10:29 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker 16. Ugh, another 'white ghost' with the name Adam. At least it is very clean.
17. A CD 362-class arrives with a passenger train while yet another 'white ghost' shows around the corner. 18. There are many variations to the two-tone blue and white CD scheme. Here is a different version on another 362-class. Date: 07/08/25 10:37 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker 19. Slovakia makes an appearance with this attractive red and white 361-class locomotive leading. Many of the CD passenger trains had red Slovak coaches mixed in.
20. Followed shortly by a European Locomotive Leasing 193-class Vectron in a special CD scheme leading a train of red Slovak coaches. 21. The 371-class also looks quite different from one side to the other. Date: 07/08/25 10:43 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker 22. A RegioJet 162-class in a large print scheme.
23. A 660-class InterPanter (Panther) EMU makes an appearance. 24. I really like these modern Škoda 380-class electrics but they are supposedly not well liked or not reliable and are being phased out (needs confirmation). With as many electric locomotives as Škoda has produced over the years you would think they would know what they were doing. Date: 07/08/25 11:08 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: NMlurker 25. Another CD 380-class locomotive but in a special scheme for the Brno hockey team, HC Kometa Brno, presumably related to passenger service to the arena for games.
26. A colorful European Locomotive Leasing 6193-class Vectron in service for RegioJet via what is described as the 'Czech pool CT-Train.' They have at least two of these dog-themed Vectrons on lease. 27. And finally the rain comes during the arrival of a RegioJet passenger behind a 162-class. To the left is a CD 151-class built by Škoda in 1978, the only one of these that I saw. Date: 07/08/25 17:18 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: Steinzeit2 NMlurker Wrote:

I notice on some similar 814 units that it says just "UIC", so perhaps the Remote Control terminology refers to an MU capability via a digital multiplex system over a UIC cable ? This is another great series. I hope we'll see the freight action you missed when you report back from your [ hint, hint ] next trip...... Best regards, SZ Date: 07/08/25 19:13 Re: An Afternoon at Prague's Main Train Station Author: 1019X Wonderful selection of photographs, thank you for posting. In regards to the white locomotives, I am amazed that they are not covered in graffiti. In fact all of the equipment seem graffiti free.

Yes, right under the CD where there is a covered socket, "DÁLKOVÉ ŘÍZENÍ." And on another 814-class with a slightly different paint scheme, abbreviated DÁLK. ŘÍZENÍ. The other lettering is Central Bohemia regional. Some freight content to follow in the next couple of days. |
