Steam in the Netherlands!
Author: RailRyder

This past weekend the  De Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij (The Veluwsche Steam Train Company, https://stoomtrein.org/) held their annual steam gala with eight engines running between Apeldoorn and Dieren with lots of trains! The weather was great and the trains even better. They do an outstanding job of using a variety of power and consists to make a wonderful day. And day tickets are only €25 per day for all the train riding and photography you can stand! I highly recommend it!  The line is about 22 km long and easily accessed by road or by mainline passenger trains at either end.  I was able to get all these photos at various scenic spots along the line.

See you there next year!

With only a turntable in the middle of the line, engines run forward or backward as needed.

Almost reminds one of South Africa  operations years ago.

Interesting to see that black with red running gear was almost the standard paint scheme for steam locomotives in Europe but not in the UK.

The locos in these pictures are German, and the post WW1 Deutsch Reichsbahn did standardise on black and red. But other countries, like France and the Netherlands, retained a range of colourful liveries, like this Werkspoor 4-6-0 in the museum in Utrecht
