Visiting the famous Zugspitzbahn in Bavaria
Author: RailRyder

I had the chance to visit and ride the famous Zugspitzbahn in Bavaria, Germany today. This is the narrow gauge line that is partially powered by cog wheels. The last four miles or so are completely underground as the line nears the summit of the hghest peak in Germany, the Zugspitze. A beautiful ride in a beautiful part of Germany!

Neat!

I’ve only been to Bavaria once and only really to Freising outside of Munich to visit Weihenstephan’s brewery and grounds.

How far is this from let’s say, Munich?

Just in case I ever make it back.

From Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (the base of train operations for the Zugspitzbahn) is about 90 km or 1.5 hours by train. Well worth it!
