1. VR Dv12 #2725 ran around its 2-coach train after arriving from Karjaa.
2. This appeared to be a 1-man show.  I think he was operating the #2725.
3. Train H357 to Karjaa led by Dv12 #2725 was at the station awaiting departure time.

4. This was in front of the station.  I don’t know if it really was controlling the switches and/or signals.  I didn’t see anyone use it.
5. This kept
6. the wires tight.

7. H357 departed about 20 minutes after H356 arrived.
8. Dv12s #2708 + #2730 were tied down.
9. Dv12 #2707 switched auto VR racks.  In the distance at upper left was a NYK ship.  I was told that many autos built in Germany, France and Italy were delivered here by ship from Germany.

10. This was one of a string of Russian auto racks.
I took a walk around town and had lunch at a café near the Baltic Sea beach.
11. Train #H358 from Karjaa arrived about 1:40 after H357 departed.
12 - 14. Dv12 #2725 ran around the two coaches.

15. Train H359 had markers hung in seven minutes.  I took H759 back to Karjaa.

Thanks for posting these.

I spent a couple weeks in Finland in the early 80s, need to get some of those slides scanned and posted. One of the most vivid memories I have is that a simple Finnish coach (built to 5 foot gauge, only 3 1/2 inches wider than standard) felt notable bigger inside, and rode much smoother than anything in North America.

Some of that could have been track conditions, of course. But the added width in simple 2x2 coach seating was memorable.

I noticed the increase in space also.  The smoother ride is mostly due to better track I think.  A Pendolino ride at 200 km/hr (124 mph) was as smooth as can be.  I rode Acela between WDC and Boston last winter and found it smooth in many places, but terrible in others.  Gerry
