Big Steam in Germany today!

Today IGE Erlebnisreisen operated double headed German Class 01's on the mainline from Cologne Hbf to Darmstadt Hbf with a huge train including a diner and a lounge car. Sustaned speeds were 65 mph on the mainlines. It was a fantastic day!

Very cool but why did they run the trip on a Wednesday?  Is it a national holiday today in Germany?

There is never a bad day to run a mainline steam excursion! This is the first day of a six day steam extravaganza across Germany!
