Really remarkable for me--I haven't ridden DB since the 1980s, and it was excellent then.

NPR is not the only one, the program Inside Europe by the German Public Broadcaster DW had a half hour program on the decline of the German Railways.
They say it started right after reunification with the takeover of the East German Railways by the DB.

I rode extensively on DB IN 1985 with my family and found it to be excellent, both in comfort and convenience.
