European Railroad Discussion > A foreigner changes trains in Swansea and heads for NewportDate: 12/23/25 10:04 A foreigner changes trains in Swansea and heads for Newport Author: NMlurker In South Wales. The Heart of Wales train terminates in Swansea and I transferred to a different Transport for Wales service to get to my next stop of Newport.
1. On the right is the Heart of Wales train that I came in on and on the left is the back half of the train I would take to Newport. 2. And here comes the front half of the train to Newport in what would become a five-unit set of the modern CAF-built (Spain) 197-class DMUs. The other passenger service provider in Swansea is the Great Western Railway that runs west from London and serves south Wales and southwestern England.
4. The station at Swansea has a four-track stub-end layout. Every GWR train that I saw was an 800-class Hitachi-built bi-mode multiple unit (BMU) as electrification has not made it to Swansea.
