European Railroad Discussion > What documentation required for transfer in Paris?Date: 12/31/25 05:44 What documentation required for transfer in Paris? Author: dcorreia I have a planned trip from Zurich to London via TGV and Eurostar in April. Other than the new electronic visa required by England, what documentation should I have for the transfer in Paris? Is a visa like document needed? Thank you!

Author: NMlurker The EU has long threatened to start requiring some form of advance/electronic/paid visa for US (and other non-EU travelers) but nothing so far. The US State Department website has all of this sort of information.Tips from the U.S. embassy

You will go through the EUs new EES system (Entry/Exit System) when you arrive in Zurich (yes I know Switzerland isn't in the EU but it's in the Schengen zone) and when you leave for London at the Gare du Nord. Its not onerous, they take finger prints & a photograph, but it does lengthen the time taken to negotiate the border. In time you'll need an ESTA like permit before you travel. That's supposedly later this year. At present the EES is being applied selectively by some EU countries, others are applying it to all travellers. When I left Italy on December 2nd I queued for about half an hour to go through immigration, longer in fact than on entering four days earlier! Edited 1 time(s).
