First Shots of 2026
Author: exhaustED

It's been a cool but bright start to the year here in Blighty/the UK and the bright sunshine tempted me out to capture a few photons this morning... especially since there was a light sprinkling of snow last night as well.

Today I noticed that my favourite class 67 no. 67029, named 'Royal Diamond' in its unique silver livery was coming north on a Transport for Wales Cardiff to Manchester express, so I thought I'd catch it passing through Nantwich station near Crewe, in Cheshire just after 11am, with the platform under a thin blanket of snow and the wheels kicking up the light dusting from the tracks.

Shortly afterwards, just south of Crewe on the west coast main line another EMD powered loco, class 66 no. 66571 heads south with a lightly loaded Trafford Park (Manchester) to Felixstowe intermodal. Most of the snow had now melted as the temperature nudged above zero.

I'm still waiting to get a good shot of 029 when leading on a southbound train at a favourite spot of mine for afternoon trains.... hopefully this year sometime!
