On Sofia's Metro
Author: 86235

I'm currently in Sofia, Bulgaria for a few days before setting off by car to explore Bulgaria. Sofia's is a typical Soviet style Metro, ironically completed in post Soviet times in 1998. It consists of four lines, three (M1, M2 and M4) using a conventional 3rd rail system, the fourth (M3) 1500v DC overhead.

This is an M2 train at one of the major interchange point, Serdika. The rolling stock was built by Russian builder Metrowagonmash in 2005.

The video shows the retrofitted safety mesh to prevent people falling / jumping in front of trains. I've never seen such a system anywhere else.

Cool stuff!  Some of the Japanese private railways have a similar mesh platform edge system.

Never have seen this gate arrangement before. New York City should install these.
