European Railroad Discussion > A few minutes in Valladolid - Campo Grande, Spain

After an overnight in Biarritz, France, we took a coach across the border to San Sebastián (Donostia), Spain where we boarded a renfe train (modern electric) to Valladolid - Campo Grande, Spain where we changed trains to get to Salamanca.

1. We have arrived in Valladolid - Campo Grande. In the background, on the right, is what used to be a small freight yard, now totally devoid of tracks. Freights do pass on one of the the outermost tracks and I think there is a siding as well.

2. At a station stop in Cantalapiedra, Spain I found this interesting boxcar (?) outside my window. A version of an all-door boxcar? Several types of renfe freight cars wore this pleasing green color but the graffiti is bad, even on locomotives. And look at how far apart those rails are!

3. The rare duck-billed renfe AVE Talgo arrives at Valladolid. Note that this is part of the high-speed rail network in Spain and is standard gauge. The adjacent track is the traditional broad gauge. Despite riding multiple trains in Spain, I never rode a Talgo. I did pass the Talgo factory in Miranda de Ebro twice where they appear to be working on a large order for Deutsche Bahn (DB).
