European Railroad Discussion > Fun with Funiculars Friday: Bom Jesus Sanctuary, Braga, Portugal

In the hills above Braga, Portugal is the sanctuary of Bom Jesus which has a water-powered funicular. I did not have time to ride it, but I did capture a couple of shots and a video.

1. I was surprised to see people riding on the outside of the car. I did not see this again.

2. Note the water starting to flow into the front, center of the car.

3. At the left foreground, they did not get the valve shut all the way after filling the left car with water. Please be patient until the end of the video to see the start of water filling on the newly arrived car.

Maybe this will help. I also feel that I slightly misspoke. I said water-powered. Really gravity-powered where water provides the variable mass.
