European Railroad Discussion > Hanging Around a Bridge Over the Douro River in Porto, Portugal

When I crossed the Douro River on this bridge the prior evening I thought, ooh, that looks like a shot and I made it a location for the following day. This is the segment of track between Porto Campanhã and Porto São Bento that runs along the bluff between two tunnels.

1. Most trains on this segment are the regional EMUs and mostly as single sets.

2. But there was the occasional double set.

3. The main target for me was the scheduled 12:35 PM arrival at São Bento of this train off the Douro Valley line.

4. Shortly thereafter, a light 2620-class electric comes in to tow that Douro Valley line train out for servicing.

5. Looking like an inbound train with a 2600-class leading (#2610), this is actually an afternoon Douro Valley line train being towed in to São Bento and happens to have the blue heritage 1400-class diesel on the outbound end.

7. The 2620-class 'Broken Nose' loco that came in light previously departs with a train of modern coaches. Not sure if this is an in-service train or a transfer for servicing.

8. The 1:25 PM departure from São Bento of the Douro Valley line train to Pocinho with the blue heritage 1400-class diesel.

Yes, French design known as Nez Cassé (broken nose).

Possibly IR 853 13:05 Sao Bento to Valença.
