One day in Lisbon the itinerary was to take the train out to Sintra, a bus down to Cascais on the coast, and back by train to Lisbon. Lisbon has three stub-end stations, Santa Apolonia for trains from the north, Rossio for the line to Sintra, and Cais do Sodré for the line to Cascais.

1. On the platforms at the Rossio station. Lots of natural light and a mix of commuters and tourists.

4. A better view of the EMUs at Sintra. That was a long train.

5. The return trip from Cascais was not nearly as nice. Old inside and out, hot and crowded inside, and graffitied on the outside. This is a westbound train at the first stop east of Cascais, Monte Estoril, as we had walked along the shore from Cascais. I think trains ran every 20 minutes.
