Fun with Funiculars Friday: San Sebastián, Spain
Author: NMlurker

Skipping ahead a few days we are in San Sebastián, Spain in the northeast corner of the country. There is a funicular railway that goes up Monte Igueldo for the views, for an amusement park, and for a hotel.

1. The car that I rode has arrived at the top and discharged its passengers.

2. Another car reaches the top station.

3. Coming down the hill we have just passed the uphill car.

4. A little farther down the hill. I do not have a good understanding of how those "switches" work or how the flanged wheels navigate the 'Y's".

5. I saw a historic photo at this location and wanted to recreate it. Unfortunately, with the tree growth, I could only get half the car in view but it does show the slope.

6. Starting down the hill from the lower station on foot, this is the view back up the hill with a car coming down the hill.

Do the outside wheels have double flanges and the inside wheels have no flanges and a very wide tread?
