1. That’s the Emosson Dam (6447 feet amsl) seen from the TMR MBE train. To reach it you take the VerticAlp funicular, the Panoramic Train and the “minifunic” on one ticket. Le Chatelard Village, Switzerland 2. This is the lower, longer, larger funicular approaching its lower station (3691 feet amsl). Les Montuires, Switzerland 3. This is looking down from the upper station of the lower funicular (5988 feet amsl). 4. That’s Mont Blanc (15,772 feet amsl, the highest peak in Western Europe) seen from the Panoramic Train. 5. Here’s a cleaner view of Mont Blanc also from the Panoramic Train. Fun Fact: Mauna Kea (abbreviation for Mauna a Wakea), the highest peak in Hawai’i translates as White Mountain and so does Mont Blanc, and they have the name for the same reason. 7. This is the “minifunic” at the end of the Panoramic Train at the foot of the dam to above the top of the dam. From Emosson Dam 8. It’s the third and largest dam here, commissioned in 1975. 9. My intrepid daughter, Katie, had to take the zip-line across the face of the dam. 14 & 15. What’s now the lower funicular and the Panoramic Train were built in 1920 to carry workers, equipment and materials to the construction site of the original dam here, the Barberine Dam, which is now submerged under Lake Emosson. The part of the original RoW not used by the Panoramic Train is visible.
