European Railroad Discussion > On Italo 8916 from Rome to Venice

This was supposed to be premium travel. Italo is supposedly Tren Italia premium trains. What it deems to forget is that premium begins at the front of the station. Rome Tiburtina looks nice at first, but by the time you get to platform it makes my local Amtrak station look good. Trains are 11 cars, but no one knew on which end of train was car 1. Finally red-cap like person showed up with lady in wheel chair. He found out that she was going in car 2, so we finally made it to car 1. Car steward was major help with luggage. At-the-lunch made lunch in dining car on 97/98 look very good. Premium seating was tight. Much less room than Eurostar.
Next trip is Venice Innsbruck Vienna.

Just departed Florence main station for 15 minutes. Lots of air release sounds. Train reversed direction leaving station. Essentially, a cab car with passenger compartment.

Train was late into Venice.  Trip from end of high-speed ttrack at Bolgna was mostly at Amtrak speeds.  Lots of lineside industry with small yards and switch engines.  Car even had ratling sounds that were tyhpical of current Amtrak equipment.  John

Italo is not Trenitalia, It is a competitor to Trenitalia.
Italo is the marketing name of NTV
(Nuovo Transporto Viaggiatori) formed in 2012.
