"Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Documentary Railroad Man" It will bring back a lot of memories for those of you that hired out in the late 60's / early 70's. Best railroad movie I have seen. Date: 11/19/17 20:58 Re: UTU movie "Railroad Man" Author: ironmtn Agree - a really good film. I'm not a railroader, but this film gives as much feel as any I've seen for what the industry was like at the time, looking in from the fan's perspective. And what it would have been like for me if Uncle John had hired me into train service, as I had hoped at the time.

Date: 11/20/17 16:16 Re: UTU movie "Railroad Man" Author: Margaret_SP_fan I'm not a railroader, either, and never have been.
It sure gave a really good idea of what it is really like to be a railroader -- a hard and very dangerous job. We have got to stick together, no matter what jobs we do, as we all have the same basic needs and we all deserve to be respected and paid well and treated well. We can get important changes made, but only if we all stick together. My hat is off to all railroaders, past and present. Date: 11/24/17 08:42 Re: UTU movie "Railroad Man" Author: trainjunkie I watched this video a long time ago, and again recently, and as a railroader I don't think this really gives anyone any idea whatsoever of what it's like to actually be a railroader. There is "railroading the job" and "railroading the lifestyle" and this is more about the job and the union than the big picture that includes the lifestyle, including the challenges at home which, in turn, deeply affect the job.
That being said, it certainly does teach a valuable lesson which is; The more things change, the more they stay the same. Especially the grieving process, which is just as inefficient now as it was then. Neat footage though of how the craft once was, and will never be again. Some things I miss, like pulling pins and kicking cars. And some things I don't miss, like riding tall brake wheels on the leading end of a car. Edited 1 time(s).
