Train crews on a regular run often realize there are domestic animals which greet them every day along the tracks. Hence "Barking Dog Curve" and other locations along the tracks of the CP Boundary Subdivision west from Nelson BC. Part of the route passed behind the back yards of various communities.

The railway follows the Kootenay River west of Nelson, and a couple of miles west of town was the tiny community of Beasley. There was a rocky island in the river, a couple of acres in size.
We soon discovered the island was inhabited. A large domestic pig would appear out of the trees on the island to watch trains go by. I never checked out the other side of the island, but I assume
there was a bridge to a farm on the opposite shore of the river. 

The pig would appear out of the trees, watch the train go by, and the caboose crews noted that it would return to the forest once the tail end of the train went by.

Oh!  Of course, a railfan pig.  Similar to herds of railfan cows.  Watch when you pass a herd of cattle, and some of them will watch the train pass.

Did you ever check to see if it was the Ziffel Farm?

There was a goat on the CSX former L&N shortline between Cincinnati and Louisville just after Independence Trestle. We called him Trainmaster Billy Goat. It was a step hillside with no roads nearby. It at one time was a tunnel that got daylighted from my understanding. He was always about half way up the face that was around 80-100ft.

A location a bit west of Sainte-Thérèse on the ex-CP Lachute Sub (now QGRY) has also been dubbed 'Barking Dog' by your friend KG. I shot with him there in 2014 and there was indeed a barking dog at this location.
