Railroaders' Nostalgia > How did EL get freight to New England after 1974Date: 07/21/20 17:43 How did EL get freight to New England after 1974 Author: twropr I saw a post that spoke of EL trains detouring over the Utica Branch, presumably between Binghamton and the PC at Utica. Apparently this happened after the 1974 Poughkeepsie bridge fire. How did the EL trains get from Utica to the former New Haven?

Basically the train was interchanged to PC at Utica instead of Maybrook. Pool power tended to run between Selkirk and Gang Mills, initially on an alternating basis but towards the last 6 months PC run through power became rare. I thought that train carried the EL's cars on that train.

Someday I'll have to dig out some of the wheel reports of NE-74 and check. I do know there where many Springfield destinations. Maybe the NE74 was split at Selkirk and reclassifed to other trains. Many of the cars interchanged at Utica were bound for Cedar Hill. Out of Binghamton northbound on the Utica branch in the late afternoon, a great run up the Chenango in long summer afternoons.

I think the trains did run the Beacon Branch once that line received some attention. Posted from Android |
