John, I see I made the list. Nicknames, everybody had one. White Ray, Flim Flam Man, Captain Oh Wow!, Spider Monkey,Twist and Shout, Tomato Jack, Chicken Schmidt, Uncle Jerry, Salina Tom, Hide car, Section 8, Mud lips, Cement Head,, it goes on & on.

When Santa Fe opened Barstow yard in 1976, there were 5 assistant trainmasters - who, for some reason, were nicknamed:  Slick, Shaky, The Skull,  The Shoe, and Singer.
You may guess as to which one of the names was mine.

And there was a rear end crew whose radio button stuck. For several minutes, anybody within 50 mile got hear all the gory details about a vasectomy gone wrong. There was swelling, dis-coloration, tenderness, pain, and a doctor visit, It was so bad he could hardly walk, and had to lay off a trip. He became known as "Lug nuts" after that.
