MONTREAL, Quebec - Canadian National Railway Co. posted its lowest-ever quarterly operating ratio in the third quarter at 57.4. CN was the only Class I to attain a ratio below 60 and improved its quarterly ratio 5.9 points compared with third-quarter 2005. Revenue totaling $1.8 billion increased nine percent, operating income totaling $751 million rose 27 percent, and net income totaling $443 million went up 21 percent. Author: wabash2800 So how did they accomplish this---by sqeezing blood out of a turnip or did they have very little terminal operations?
I'm not saying that it can't be done legitimately but as someone with some background in operations I'd like to know. And if they made an accounting adjustment, that realistically can't included in the the operating ratio. (I've actually seen that.) OK, let the flaming begin. I'm cold today.
