GE's and fire
Author: tihess

After seeing yet another GE yesterday with fire damage, and having heard and seen so much about this problem with GE's....i'm curious as to why this happens to GE's? IS there a design flaw? and if so wouldn't GE have addressed it by now? I mean we are talking about million dollar locomotives here.. Anybody know? T

It's totally common.. GE units from U series to Dash-7 all the way to GEVO's always gets fire damage. Nothing new to say! Ever seen any GE appliances that you have in the house gets on fire? That's typical GE products..

Next thing they make newer locomotives... stick with a Frigidaire or Kenmore...

From what I remember, it has to do with a lube oil or fuel oil seperater in the turbo.

Pretty sure my GE appliances don't catch on fire.

I had a Frigidaire refigerator catch fire some years ago though.

I have seen many GE's with fuel leaks from the supply lines that run down the side of the locomotive engine. Fuel everywhere in a hot environment its just a matter of time.

GE uses high pressure fuel lines while EMD does not. When a fuel line breaks on a GE, it sprays fuel everywhere.
